This 2nd Grade ELA unit takes students beyond simply finding nouns in a sentence. Students first learn what nouns are, then build their understanding through identification, classification, guided practice, application, and review activities.
The activities are intentionally sequenced so students are introduced to each concept before being asked to use it independently.
What Students Will Learn
•Identify nouns that name people, places, animals, and things
•Distinguish between common and proper nouns
•Understand proper noun capitalization
•Identify singular and plural nouns
•Form regular plural nouns using -s and -es
•Recognize collective nouns
•Build compound nouns
•Distinguish between concrete and abstract nouns
•Identify and classify nouns in sentences and context
•Apply noun skills through editing and writing activities
•Review multiple noun concepts together
